Memorial Trust

Funding Research in Burns and Reconstructive Surgery.
Our Trust was founded by the brave airmen who underwent surgery at The Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead during the 2nd World War. Our purpose is to provide funds for research into burns healing and reconstructive surgery.
Despite huge advances in plastic surgery since 1940, treating patients with severe burns remains a formidable challenge. Everything from immediate care, surgery and reconstruction, to dealing with pain and scarring are still major issues. Help us to fund research to find answers.
The Guinea Pigs’ Story

During WWII, a group of badly burned airmen underwent pioneering reconstructive surgery at The Queen Victoria Hospital. They called themselves ‘The Guinea Pigs.’ Their courage and humour forged a legacy of resilience that lives on today.
